The shingles vaccine is suitable for patients aged 50 years and is expected to reduce your risk of getting shingles. If you do go on to have the disease, your symptoms may be milder and the illness shorter. Two doses are required and the price listed is for each dose.
If you turned 65 on or after 1st of September 2023, you will be entitled to an NHS funded shingles vaccine with your GP. You will remain eligible up until your 80th birthday.
Pneumococcal infections are caused by the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae and can lead to pneumonia, blood poisoning (sepsis) and meningitis.
At their worst, they can cause permanent brain damage, or even kill.
If you are 65 or over, you will be entitled to an NHS funded pneumonia vaccine through your GP.
HPV infections do not usually cause any symptoms, and most people will not know they are infected.
The NHS has changed its guidance on how many HPV vaccinations are required. If you are starting a new course most people will only require 2 doses.
It is best to get vaccinated before you have sex for the first time as this means you are protected before you are first exposed to HPV although you will still benefit from the vaccine if you are already sexually active. Boosters are not currently recommended.
The listed price is for a single dose of vaccine.

-acetazolamide to prevent and treat high-altitude sickness
-ibuprofen and paracetamol for headaches
-anti-sickness medicine, such as promethazine, for nausea
Promethazine, ibuprofen, and paracetamol are all available from pharmacies. You do not need a prescription to buy them.
Acetazolamide 250mg tablets works to treat altitude sickness by increasing the amount of urine produced, consequently altering the acidity of the blood. This leads to a reduction in fluid in the lungs and around the brain. The result is improved breathing and relief from the symptoms of altitude sickness.
The price quoted is for the consultation and for 10 x acetazolamide tablets. The dose is half a tablet taken twice daily starting 1-2 days before starting your climb and continuing whilst at high altitude.
This vaccine is not suitable for pregnant women or women who are trying for a baby. The chickenpox vaccination should be administered with at least a 4-week gap from some other vaccinations. If you have had another vaccination recently, contact our pharmacist and we can advise.
The price you will be quoted is for your consultation and one dose of vaccine – for full protection you will need two doses, four to eight weeks apart (your pharmacist will advise when the second dose is due).
This vaccine is not generally available on the NHS.
The screening service is designed to establish a patient’s Total Cholesterol (TC)/High Density Lipid (HDL) ratio and give an indication of their blood lipid profile. The procedure involves a finger-prick test the result will be available within 5 minutes.
NHS Contraception Service (Morning After Pill & Bridging Contraception)
Bridging contraception can also provide a 3-month supply of a contraception pill. This service can bridge the gap for the patient whilst they seek advice on their options and decide on a choice for a long-term method.
This service is limited to patients over the age of 12 years.
There are 2 main types of diabetes:
type 1 diabetes – where the body's immune system attacks and destroys the cells that produce insulin
type 2 diabetes – where the body does not produce enough insulin, or the body's cells do not react to insulin.
Type 2 diabetes is far more common than type 1. In the UK, around 90% of all adults with diabetes have type 2.
The service we offer comprises of a diabetes risk assessment and a blood glucose test via a finger-prick sample. We cannot diagnose diabetes with this test at the pharmacy, but it can give you an insight to whether you may have or be at risk of developing the condition.
The vaccine protects you for 10 years after which, you will require another booster.
Please note that the cost of treatment may vary, dependent on the number of tablets you want and which medication you and your pharmacist agree is best for you and your circumstances. Book an appointment and all these options can be discussed.
It is available to female patients aged 19 and over who have had the condition already diagnosed by a GP. This is not suitable for anyone with any liver or kidney problems and who are pregnant or breast-feeding.
If the condition is severe or has rapidly worsened, then please see your GP.
THIS SERVICE WILL BEGIN ON THE 1ST OF OCTOBER 2025 AND RUN UNTIL THE END OF MARCH 2026

This medication is only suitable for males aged 18 and over. If you have any kind of liver impairment or psychiatric disorder, please see your GP before considering this medication.

The course consists of three doses. The second injection is given four weeks after the first, and the third injection should be given five months later (completing the course in six months). If travelling at short notice, you may be able to get an accelerated course. You will receive the second injection after seven days, followed by the third injection at least 14 days after the second. To complete the full course in time, you need to get the first dose at least one month before travel. You would require a fourth dose after 1 year to get full immunity.
The quoted price is for each dose of vaccine. A 10% discount is available if all 3 doses are paid up front - please speak to one of our pharmacists to discuss this.
Once you have completed the course, you usually won’t need another booster for five years although they are sometimes recommended after exposure to the disease.

Accelerated courses where the 2nd dose is administered 7 days after the 1st are also available if you are short on time.
The vaccine protects you for around 12 months, after which a booster would be required should you be at continued risk of the disease.
The price quoted is for a single dose of the vaccine.
Take one tablet on the night of arrival at your destination about 30 minutes before bed. Repeat this the following night.
The price quoted covers the cost of the consultation and for 4 tablets which should be sufficient for the journey out and your return.
Not suitable for under 18s, pregnant or breast-feeding patients. Also if you have liver or kidney problems, have epilepsy, uncontrolled or severe high blood pressure or on oral blood thinners then this medication should be avoided.
NHS Complicated Urinary Tract Infections (16 years and over) (PIPs)
If you:
- are a male
- are over the age of 65
- have had more than one water infection in the last 6 months (or two in the last 12 months)
- are diabetic
- are pregnant
- think you may have a kidney infection
then book this service and our prescribing pharmacist can assess your symptoms and prescribe treatment if appropriate. Otherwise, please book a regular UTI appointment.
Which tablets are best for you also depends on your medical history, the activities you have planned or sometimes your own personal preferences or circumstance.
Please note that the cost of treatment may vary, depending on the length of your trip and the medication you and our pharmacist agree is best for you - however the ones that we generally issue are Malarone (£3 per tablet) and Doxycycline (£0.65 a capsule). The cost of antimalarials for children may differ.
Malaria prevention tablets are not available on the NHS.
This medication works to decrease your appetite and therefore reduce your food intake, which used in conjunction with a calorie-controlled diet and increased exercise has been shown to aid weight loss.
This service begins with an initial consultation with a pharmacist to discuss your general lifestyle and health situation. We will assess which treatments you would be eligible for and their implications.
The treatments potentially available within this service are:
- Mounjaro (Tirzepatide): price starts at £199 per pen (contains a 4 week supply)
- Wegovy (Semaglutide): price starts at £159 per pen (contains a 4 week supply)
- Saxenda (Liraglutide): £60 per pen (how long this lasts depends on dosage)
- Xenical (Orlistat): £50 per 84 capsules (28 day supply)
- Mysimba (Naltrexone/Bupropion): £120 per 112 tablets (28 day supply)
There is no initial charge for the consultation, but the cost of the medication does vary depending on which product is chosen and quantity required.
The symptoms vary from person to person but usually the infection involves a severe headache, a high temperature and vomiting. Some patients also suffer from a stiff neck, are unusually sensitive to light and feel exhausted. The most typical symptom of meningitis is a skin rash, which occurs in many but not all cases.
The meningitis ACWY vaccine provides protection against all four meningitis types included in its name. It is particularly suitable for travellers who could be at risk of contracting one of these.
If you are planning to travel abroad, you need to check whether you will be entering a meningococcal meningitis risk area. It is particularly prominent in parts of Sub-Saharan Africa, an area sometimes referred to as the “meningitis belt”. Here, meningitis A is the most frequent cause of the illness, but there have been recent outbreaks of W, X and C.
The meningitis vaccine consists of one single dose, which is administered by injection. You should arrange an appointment with your pharmacist at least two to three weeks before the date of your departure.
It is recommended that students attending university for the first time, receive a single dose of Meningitis ACWY. There is currently a routine NHS vaccine programme for all children in year 9.
No boosters are currently required except for certificate purposes. Some countries, for example Saudi Arabia, demand that you provide a meningitis ACWY certificate prior to entering.
Please note that this does NOT protect you from meningitis B.
The price you will be quoted is for your consultation and one dose of vaccine – you only need one dose.
Book a consultation and our pharmacist can advise you on whether this vaccination is right for you. The price quoted is for your consultation and one dose of vaccine – you will need two or potentially three doses (dependent on your circumstance) of this vaccine, at least a month apart.
Many people have heard the myth that vaccines like the MMR vaccine have been linked to autism. This was due to one study that was completely discredited, written by a man who was stripped of his license to practice medicine in the UK. Since this study almost 20 years ago, no other study has shown this link to exist. Please do not avoid getting vaccinated as there is no such risk involved.
Start your course at least six weeks before travelling. You need two doses, with minimum a four week gap in between, and your second dose needs to be completed at least two weeks before travelling, making six weeks total. If you also require a Yellow Fever vaccine, you should have ideally a four-week gap between this and your MMR. This may also apply to a chickenpox vaccine and tuberculosis test, they should be done on the same day as MMR or allow a 4 week gap.
The vaccine can be taken from 12 months (9 months old in some cases), but we only provide this service to those over 18. The price you will be quoted is for your consultation and a single dose of vaccine.
There is no need for a booster dose of this vaccine.
Using ground-breaking therapeutic electrical currents, NuroKor Lifetech’s technology gives you the tools to help manage pain and optimise recovery and rehabilitation. Completely drug-free, this revolutionary treatment is ideal for tackling chronic and acute pain. NuroKor Lifetech is the future of pain management.
In a recent survey, 100% of people experienced reduced pain after using NuroKor Lifetech. The uniquely effective treatment helps manage your pain by influencing pain signals between your brain and injured areas. It’s like having your own personal therapist that you can use in the comfort of your own home and can reduce the need for pills and expensive treatments.
It can be used to ease many types of pain, including back and neck pain, arthritis, sciatica, frozen shoulder, joint pain, lumbar and nerve pain. This technology can go further than addressing just pain, as it has been shown to help regulate inflammation and promote healing – tackling the cause of pain itself.
By optimising recovery and rehabilitation, you can get back to full fitness sooner – one injured rugby pro was back on the pitch weeks ahead of schedule! – and this can also help you make greater performance gains.
You can access this incredible technology through the mitouch complete body system and mibody therapy system. These ultra-wearable, portable, easy-to-use devices deliver NuroKor Lifetech’s signature bioelectronic therapy using gentle electrical currents.
The mitouch complete body system provides physical therapy through bioelectrical massage action. It has 5 modes of treatment – Pain, Pain+, MC2 (or microcurrent therapy), Performance and Recovery. Each mode has 4 variations, and the intensity can be adjusted so you can find exactly what works for you.
Accessories for the mitouch include the KorBand, KorGlov and KorShoe for more conveniently targeting pain in specific areas.
The mibody is a small, discreet, and completely wearable device that is scientifically formulated to help ease pain as well as optimise recovery and increase performance. Although smaller and not as customisable as the mitouch, it is still an effective pain relief and anti-inflammation treatment for joints, sprains, strains, and bruises as well as minor sports injuries. It has also proven to be effective for women suffering with menstrual pain and pain caused by endometriosis. The mibody has 6 different treatment modes and 2 clinically proven bioelectronic technologies.
Get back to being you with these incredible devices! Book a free trial today to see for yourself.
These devices should not be used if you have a pacemaker or any other implanted electronic stimulation device.
Norethisterone is a synthetic form of the hormone progesterone. Rather than allowing for the natural fall in progesterone during your period, norethisterone keeps your progesterone levels elevated. This delays the shedding of your womb lining, and therefore delays your period. Take one 5mg tablet, three times a day, starting three days before your expected period.
The price quoted is for your consultation and for a course of 30 tablets (taken for 10 days) which would be suitable for a week-long delay. We can supply up to a 2-week delay (for 14 days plus the 3 days prior to expected onset of period) for an additional fee. Menstruation usually occurs within 3 days of finishing the course of norethistorone.
This service is only suitable for females over the age of 16 who are not pregnant or breast-feeding and not on any kind of oral contraceptives. Liver disease, epilepsy and psychiatric disorders would also exclude you from using this treatment. For full details please contact the pharmacy.
The pre-exposure rabies vaccine is administered with an intramuscular injection and consists of three doses. The three doses need to be given within a specific period, so you should begin the treatment at least one month before travelling. You will receive the second dose 7 days after the first, the third dose should be received on the 28th day. If there isn’t enough time then the third dose can be administered on the 21st day.
The price quoted is for your consultation and one dose of vaccine – a full course is three doses unless you have had a course of vaccination before. A 10% discount is available if you purchase the whole course up front - please speak to one of our pharmacists if you would like to arrange this.
Rabies vaccination is not available on the NHS.
The rabies vaccine protects you for 10 years. If you are working with animals or are otherwise at a higher risk, more frequent boosters may be recommended.
If, however, we suspect that there may be a bacterial cause to your condition, we can swab the back of the throat and test it. This will reveal whether there is a bacterial infection present and if so, we can supply a course of antibiotics to treat the condition. This service is only available to patients aged 6 years and above.
If you have any questions about this service, please contact the pharmacy.
The course consists of three doses. The second dose is given 1 – 3 months after the first. The third dose is given 5 – 12 months after the second dose.
You need the first two doses to be protected and the 2nd dose need to be given at least two weeks before travel. Therefore, you should get the first dose at around two months before travel – the earlier, the better.
If you are travelling at short notice, you may be able to have the first two doses 14 days apart. You need to start this course at least 4 weeks before travel to be fully protected by the time you go.
Once you have completed the three-dose course, you are protected for three years. You need a booster to remain protected once the three years are up. The price quoted is for a single vaccine - a 10% discount is available if the full course is paid for up front.
This is a one-to-one consultation with a pharmacist where we can determine all your requirements prior to travelling.
This can include appropriate vaccinations and malaria prevention medication but also period delay, altitude sickness, insect repellents and much more.
We always recommend doing this in plenty of time before travelling as many vaccines involve a course of doses which need to be started several weeks before travelling.
Travellers who are planning to visit high risk regions for travellers’ diarrhoea, and who will be unable to access medical help during their trip, may be advised to take medication with them to be able to treat the condition if they catch it.
The price quoted is for your consultation and for a three-day course of antibiotic tablets that can be taken with you on your travels for if it is needed.
There are two different typhoid vaccines available in the UK. One is administered orally, the other consists of a single-dose intramuscular injection. The oral vaccine consists of three capsules, which need to be taken on alternate days. This type of vaccine is not suitable for people with a weak immune system and is not recommended for children.
The price quoted is for your consultation and for one injection or three capsules (both of these provide a full course of treatment) and is effective for three years.
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) affect your urinary tract, including your bladder (cystitis), urethra or kidneys. UTIs may be treated with antibiotics, but they are NOT always needed.
This is an NHS funded service and is available to non-pregnant women aged 16 to 64 and may involve a urine test.
If you have symptoms of a UTI, such as burning pain when urinating, needing to urinate more often or have cloudy urine - you could receive antibiotics without the need for an appointment with your GP. If this is a regular problem, you are diabetic or are post-menopausal you may need to be referred to a GP.
If you are a male, outside the ages of 16-64, have recurrent UTIs, are pregnant, diabetic or think you may have a kidney infection, try this service instead.
Certain medical conditions, such as pernicious anemia and gastrointestinal disorders, can also cause B12 deficiency.

If you're traveling to areas where chikungunya is common—such as parts of Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and Central and South America—one dose of IXCHIQ® can help reduce your risk of this serious illness. IXCHIQ® is a live-attenuated vaccine, approved for adults 18 years and older, however, its use has been restricted for pregnant, immunocompromised or people aged 60 and older.
The vaccine protects you for 10 years after which, you will require another booster.
The price you will be quoted is for your consultation and one dose of vaccine – one dose will protect you in the short term (for about 1 year), but you will need a booster 6-12 months later for long-term protection (up to 25 years).
You may be eligible for a free hepatitis A vaccination on the NHS from your GP practice – your GP or Practice Nurse can advise you.
The course consists of two doses. The second dose needs to be given ideally 28 days after the first. You are protected from seven days after this. You need to get the first dose ideally five weeks before you travel to be able to complete the course in time.
The yellow fever vaccine is a highly effective, single-dose vaccine that provides lifelong immunity in most people. It is recommended for travelers to high-risk areas and required by some countries for entry. The vaccine is generally safe, but it may have rare side-effects, especially in people with weakened immune systems or certain medical conditions.
Here at Mendus and Pembroke Castle Pharmacies, we can provide the vaccine and appropriate certification.

If you are a male, outside the ages of 16-64, have recurrent UTIs, are pregnant, diabetic or think you may have a kidney infection, try this service instead.
Certain medical conditions, such as pernicious anemia and gastrointestinal disorders, can also cause B12 deficiency.

The online booking process was easy and I arrived a little early but was soon seen and the booster given. Thanks - Peter Blackburn··from Google
